Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Pershing
God only knows why it has taken me two months to actually write a review on the latest disc from Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (SSLYBY for the sake of typing all of that). Im sure it has to do with the fact that I have not taken the CD out of my car since April, despite the number of times I have refilled the CD case. Pershing, the sophomore outing from SSLYBY, has graced my car stereo more times than than any other album released this year, save for the latest My Morning Jacket album. Nearly every song on Pershing exemplifies the very definition of what a perfect indie pop song should be. From the oh-so catchy musical structure of the opening track “Glue Girls” to the laid back vibe on “Heers”, Pershing does not let up for one second. “Modern Mystery” and “Think I Wanna Die” both showcase the bands talent for completely engrossing the audience in every aspect of their songwriting. And words simply can not describe the feeling experienced during “Some Constellation.” Indie pop hasn’t sounded this good in a long, long time.
